Limassol is the largest sea side city here in Cyprus, and one of the most popular destinations for tourists. Like much of Cyprus, this city has a lot of amazing history to learn about. It was built between the ancient cities of Amathus and Curium, and legend has it that Richard the Lion heart married and crowned the Lord of Cyprus there.
These days it is a very cosmopolitan city with lots of fun things to do.
Limassol also has the largest port on the island, and can be reached by boat. Many cruises stop there, and you can get a ferry there from Greece, Italy, Egypt and Israel.
There are many historical sites and museums to visit in Limassol. One very popular destination is Limassol castle. The castle itself has a lot of historical value, and is home to some very scenic gardens and an old olive press.
The Archaeological museum in Limassol is also well worth a visit. There you can see many relics and artefacts from Roman, Byzantine, Neolithic and Bronze Age settlers. There is also the Folk Art Museum, which has some interesting collections or arts and crafts from the 1800’s-1900’s.

· Amathus ruins – see the remnants of a 3000 year old city

· Agios Nikolaos ton Gaton Convent – said to be the first monastery in Cyprus

Getting there
It’s located on the south side of Cyprus, and stretches along the Mediterranean coast. Limassol is situated right between two airports on the island, so you can fly in to either Larnaca or Paphos airports. You will then need to get a bus or taxi to Limassol.
